5 ESSENTIALS TO RE-CREATE THE KOREAN DRAMA LOOK

I thought this would be a pretty fun makeup post to delve into! I just finished watching 내 아이디는 강남미인 [MY ID IS GANGNAM BEAUTY] and fell in love with Mi-Rae’s makeup style. I also noticed that her look is a common one for leading ladies in this genre.

I found some other popular dramas that stretch out a few years back to show you how this look has made it onto the screen time and time again!

MY LOVE FROM ANOTHER STAR ‘2013

CITY HUNTER ‘2011

Well you get what I mean. Even though it’s been used over the years I think it became even more of a staple with MY LOVE FROM ANOTHER STAR. The look became such a sensation at the time that a YSL lipstick shade actually ran out of stock in many places. YSL Rouge Pur Couture in No. 52 Rosy Coral, in case you were curious. Eventually it was revealed that YSL was never used on the set but actually IOPE and it took several products to create the color. One of them being, Water Fit Lipstick in No. 44 Forever Pink (which I own!).

These are the 5 essentials you need to re-create this look!

1. GLOWING SKIN

That means you can ditch the matte foundations and get down with the dew. Korean makeup and skincare is centralized around looking young and healthy. So the mature, caked on look of the West is going to be a no go. My favorite cushion right now is the VELY VELY AURA GLOW CUSHION. It’s actually the most glow I’ve ever seen in a cushion!

2. STRAIGHT BROWS

Take it from Ryan, he’s the king of straight brows. Just like arches are a necessity in the West, straight brows rule in Korea. Slight arches are okay too though. I have a natural arch but it is possible to train your brows over time. That’s exactly what I’ve been doing monthly with the help of my local Benefit brow bar.

3. SINGLE SHADOW [NEUTRAL/PINKISH]

We’re keeping it simple here! I mainly see neutral shadows and some pinkish ones too. My daily shadow to prevent creasing on my lids from my bb cushion is in this quad from Holika Holika. The shade doesn’t have a name but it’s on the upper left! 05 Ruby Velvet is the quad name. Aritaum has some really nice single shadows for this look as well.

4. THIN BROWN LINER

The key is for it to be thin, we don’t need winged liner here. Sometimes it doesn’t look like they are wearing any at all, but they definitely are it’s just very faint. Brown tends to look more natural compared to black liner. I also noticed that mascara is hardly used.

5. HYDRATED PINK LIPS

Again we can ditch the matte shades and opt for some hydrating lipsticks or juicy tints. These are three that have been favorites for awhile now! I own a lot more though, I own probably too many lip products in these types of shades.. HELP!

  1. Your skin looks so healthy! Wow, I really love the makeup of kdrama females, and I like how accurately you recreated it. Now I wanna do something like this haha, but I don’t currently own products like this so maybe in the future 🤞
